What is a good event for beginners to try out?
Honestly, any of our events are great for first time adventure seekers. It really depends on what you want out of your Team Green experience. Are you looking for fun, laid back adventure seekers to socialize with? Attend one of our mixers. Are you looking for a great work out and a group of people to encourage you? Try indoor rock climbing, yoga, or a weekly hike. Are you just simply looking for a thrill but don’t want to go alone? Go on any of our big weekend adventures or international trips. No matter what, a Team Green TAG member or staff will be around to make sure you’re comfortable with your experience.
Is Team Green a singles social club?
No. Team Green Adventures is an outdoor adventure organization, which offers a membership option to access greater discounts and special giveaways for those who support Team Green. Although we do hope to connect individuals with a passion for the outdoors to other adventure seekers in the Middle Tennessee Community, our mission is to simply get people active and provide a safe environment to try out new outdoor adventures that you may not want to do on your own, while promoting an appreciation for our natural surroundings.
Team Green Adventures does offer social events on a regular basis, often supported by a beer or liquor sponsor. These events are designed to reunite participants from past events who many not have seen one another in a while, or to welcome interested individuals who want to learn more before attending an out of town event. Each of our events draw a diverse crowd, and no one event is a true sample of all our members.
Check out Team Greens Code of Conduct for information on our policies.
Is there a way to see who else is going on the adventures?
Many social networking groups have popped up in Nashville over the past few years, offering the ability to see who registers for the events before signing up. Team Green Adventures is not a social networking organization. Our focus is on the adventure itself and we hope to draw in individuals who sign up for the activity, regardless of who else may or may not be attending. To prevent a “cliquish” environment, Team Green does not offer a function for participants to view other participants before registering for our major events. Team Green does offer a pre-trip mixer, exclusively for those who register for overnight events of three or more days (ski trips, long backpacking trips, international treks, some out of state treks) so that the participants can meet one another before heading out on a long journey.
For the more social events (volleyball, ice skating, Engage Green, Adventure Mixers) we will post the event on the Team Green Facebook where participants may RSVP.
Do I have to be a member to go on the events?
No, not always. The Team Green membership gets you access to greater discounts on our events, earlier registration dates for our more popular events, and access to member only events and giveaways. Each event posting will specify whether or not the event is member only, and the price difference between members and non-members, if there is one. Once at the event, all Team Green participants are treated like members.
What is the average age demographic of Team Green Members?
Team Green boasts a very diverse membership with members and participants ranging from 18-65+ almost evenly across the board. Each event will reflect a unique combination of age and experience level. Below are figures from our 2008 Survey and 2009 membership statistics:
8% under 25
19% are 25-30yrs
19% are 30-35yrs
19% are 35-40yrs
15% are 40-45yrs
20% over 45
What is the age restriction for Team Green events?
There is no upper age limit for any of our events. Each participant must take into consideration their own ability level before registering for an event, and we do not consider age to be an indication of anyone’s ability level. Always feel welcome to ask the trip leader to discuss your ability level.
Each event has a Child Policy specifying the age limit for each event. Sometimes exceptions can be made, so it never hurts to ask your trip leader whether or not your child can attend. Please note, often the age limit is set by the outfitter that Team Green plans to use for the event, and those limits are set for safety reasons.
Can dogs attend Team Green events?
Each event also has a Dog Policy listed, stating whether or not dogs are permitted at the events. Some will say “dogs on leashes welcome” some may say “dogs welcome but not encouraged” while others will say “dogs not permitted at this event.”
I don’t know anyone in Team Green and will attend most events alone. Will I fit in?
Team Green is a great way to connect to both the outdoors and the outdoor community. You’ll find that at many of our events, your fellow adventure seekers are in the same boat as you, and they too are alone at their first event. Team Green is not a singles dating club, but is a great way to meet like-minded adventure seekers in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. Team Green members are demographically diverse. Here is some more information from our 2008 Survey and 2009 membership statistics:
25% Married/Partnered
25% Divorced/Separated
50% Single
40% Men
60% Women
I have special needs, but still want to be active and get outdoors. Can Team Green accommodate my needs?
We will certainly try. If you have special needs and want to join a specific event, feel free to call us at 242-5600 to discuss your needs with the Team Green Director or Event Coordinator. Our ability to accommodate needs may sometimes be dependent on the outfitter we use to guide our trips, but we will always be happy to look into options for you!
How many people attend Team Green events?
Team Green events vary in size based upon the activity at hand. Our weekly events (indoor climbing, yoga, hikes) range from 5-25 people per week where as our volleyball can get as large as 50 people. The backpacking trips are almost always limited to 10 participants to protect the integrity of the trails, and our Adventure Mixers can bring out between 80 and 400 participants depending on the venue. Most event postings will have a “Participant Limit” section if registration is restricted. Overall we try to keep trip sizes small in order to enhance the quality of the trip itself.
