Recycle Your Cycle

Do you have a bike that you just don’t need anymore? Have your kids grown out of their own bikes and you have them rusting in storage? Bring your old and unused bikes to Earth Day for Recycle Your Cycle from 11am to 4pm at Centennial Park.

All bikes collected at Earth Day will be fixed up and donated to kids and young adults who don’t have a bike to bring this excellent mode of exercise and transportation to more people in Nashville.

Contact RecycleYourCycle with additional questions.

Volunteer

Nashville Earth Day Festival (NEDF) volunteer opportunities can generally be broken down as follows:

  • General Event Setup: 7-10 AM (tents/tables/chairs/stage/etc.)
  • Exhibitors: 8:00-11 AM (Check-in/Unloading/Setup)
  • Information/T-Shirt Sales: 9 AM-6 PM
  • Green Room/Stage: 1-6 PM
  • Recycling/Solid Waste: 11 AM-7 PM
  • Event Take Down/Clean–Up: 5 PM-8 PM (tents/tables/chairs/trash/litter, etc.)

We always need help with event clean up, and will probably need a lot of help with trash/recycling this year. To learn more and register as a volunteer, click here.

Medication Recycling with AEGIS Labs

MEDS (Manage Extra Drugs Safely), a secure medication collection and disposal event offered by Aegis Sciences in partnership with local law enforcement, will be at Earth Day Festival to collect outdated or excess over-the-counter and prescription medications and dispose of them in an environmentally safe and secure manner.

When April 18, 2009
Where Nashville Earth Day Festival at Centennial Park, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Memorial Park in Hendersonville (near tennis courts), 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why MEDS? The Office of National Drug Control Policy recommends disposing of medications through a secure drug-disposal program.

  • At least 13 common drugs including antidepressants and antibiotics were found in the Tennessee River System, according to a study by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Ramifications include antibiotic resistance in humans and damage to aquatic life.

Disposal Instructions

  • ONLY prescription and over-the-counter medications in pill or capsule form will be accepted at the MEDS drop-off locations.
  • Over-the-counter and prescription medication MUST be in its original container(s) and have original labels. NO unlabeled prescribed medications will be accepted.
  • NO liquids, syringes or needles will be accepted.

Safety – Davidson and Sumner County Sheriffs’ deputies will be on-site to collect medication and provide security. Local law enforcement will dispose of the collected medication according to DEA and EPA standards.

Visit www.aegislabs.com/MEDS for additional information.
