Who is Team Green?
Team Green Adventures was established by Lightning 100 (WRLT 100.1 FM) in 1996 as a way to get our listeners involved in an active lifestyle. This is a unique event for Team Green members only!

- Components of a sailboat
- Points of sail (angles to the wind and their names)
- The principle of how a sail functions (Bernoulli principle)
- Leaving and returning to the dock safely
- Handling a boat under sail on the water, including drive time at the helm!
- Basics of competitive sailing
ADDITIONALLY, participants will receive a complimentary Associate Membership to Percy Priest Yacht Club (a $75 value), which includes:
- Access to the Tuesday night Learners At The Helm (LATH) program of free weekly sailing opportunities all season long (Beginning this year, PPYC is limiting LATH participation to club members or people who join after their first visit.)
- Access to the sailing education courses PPYC is planning to offer to club members (only) this year,
- The opportunity to join a boat crew for some racing on Wednesday nights or in regattas, and
- Invitation to PPYC member only social events (Spring Mixer, Commodore’s Party, July 3rd Dock Party) and member free events (the big Luau in June).
About Associate Membership at Percy Priest Yacht Club (PPYC)
The Associate Membership is the class of member who is in their first year, sort of a “try it” level to PPYC membership. It is only available for their first year with the club. If they re-new their membership the next year, it would be as an Active member. Active membership dues in 2009 are $140 plus tax. Associate Memberships in 2009 are $75 plus tax, or $81.94. Associate members enjoy all the same benefits as Active members except the Club Boat program, which is use of the club’s owned boats, which requires membership at the “Active” level. (Use of the O’Day Daysailor, Annabelle, is free to Active members. Use of the O’Day 23 and Catalina 22 is available for an additional annual fee of $125 plus tax. Use of those boats plus the club’s Northstar 500, Waller, is an additional annual fee of $250 plus tax.) Compared to the cost of owning a boat with the associated slip fees, we feel these are a considerable bargain.

I’m in!!!
Will those who were on the standby list last time get first dibs this time?
Kim,
No. This is an entirely different event. We are still working out the details of the event, but it will be a full day class including meal, instructions, PPYC membership and additional lessons on your own time. There will be a fee.

What do we need to bring/wear? Anything special? Thanks!
Mal,
Just wear clothes appropriate for the weather, sunscreen (even in cloud cover), and note paper if you want to take any notes. I look forward to seeing you there!
I was very excited to see this class on the Team Green agenda!!! I am a new member and listed sailing as an interest. I have already taken beginner sailing classes, owned a sailboat, participated in weekly small boat races and belonged to a sailing club in Key West, Florida. I am looking to connect with other experienced sailors who would like to get out on the water and sail. I do not own a boat here and need a little practice to get back my sea legs since it’s been almost 6 years since I moved here and sold my boat. I think this class will be too basic for me. Anyone else in this situation who has any ideas, connections, needs crew? Maybe a more advanced class will be available in the future? I like the benefit of the Percy Priest Associate membership that comes with this class, but have heard that Old Hickory Lake is better for sailing? I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions. It would be awesome for a Team Green Event to include a week-long sailing course somewhere in the Caribbean or South Florida!! Thanks!!
Will there be any vegetarian meal options for lunch?
I’m sure they will be able to accommodate. I will send out an email to everyone who has registered asking if there are any food allergies or vegetarian food requests.
Somethings come up and I’m unable to make this event, if someone wants my spot please message me.
Thanks

Hey guys! I’m excited about this event. I just joined Team Green and have heard great things about the organization. I look forward to meeting all of you and Sailing of course!
I hope you guys do this again in the summer. I’d be sailing w/ you this weekend, but unfortunately Saturday we’re celebrating mother’s day in my family & can’t make it. =( Hate that I’m missing out!
I want in…. Any more spots open?
Audrey,
Did you still want to go? Have you found an opening?
If tomorrow rains out, I am unable to attend the back up date. Please contact me if you are interested in my spot.
Since the forecast is predicting T-Storms all day long tomorrow; what time will the final decision to continue with or cancel the event be made?
There is only 40% chance of rain and the thunderstorms are “scattered” which means they could blow over completely. We will go on with the event and worse case do the class portion then postpone the actual sailing part of the event for our backup date May 30th (or whatever works best for the group).
